- It is best to keep essential oils out of reach of children, best practise is to keep them locked up in a cupboard or carry case and then placed out of their reach. “Prevention is better than the cure”.
- If a child does ingest any essential oil, DO NOT induce vomiting. best to give them a glass of water to drink and immediately seek medical attention.
- Keep all essential oils away from pets.
- Never use essential oils neat on skin. Essential oils should be used with a base\carrier oil first. As a general rule there should be no more than 2% essential oil in a base\carrier oil.
- To help your work this out 1ml of essential oil = 20 drops, 2ml = 40 drops and so on. So, a 100ml bottle of carrier oil such as sweet almond, the mix should be no more than 40 drops with it. Keep in mind this is for adults, if mixing for children we suggest that you seek professional advice first.
- Although some essential oils, as an example tea tree are often used neat on the skin. Some research suggests that even this should be avoided without dilution, however there is no standard ruling on this matter. We advise that you should consult your doctor initially, but if you are insistent using the oils in this manner, the general advice is that small amounts are used, i.e. 1 to 2 drops and not regularly.
- When adding essential oils to a bath, dilute it first with a dispersing base\carrier oil or small amount of full fat milk. If neither options are available when adding essential oils to water do so as you agitate the water, avoiding it from settling on the surface and cause skin irritation.
- DO NOT let essential oils come into contact with eyes. If you do accidently get in eyes, flush with clean water and seek medical advice.
- Always wash hand after use of essential, this is one of the most common ways people get essential oil in contact with the eyes. This also applies if you have to go to the toilet, wash hands first, think about the outcome it might not be pleasant “Prevention is better than the cure”.
- DO NOT take essential oils orally.
- If PREGNANT, BREAST FEEDING, EPILEPTIC, ASTHMATIC, have SENSITIVE SKIN, HIGH\LOW BLOOD PRESSURE or any HEART CONDITION or SPECIFIC CONDITIONS. Always seek professional medical advice before using essential oils or remedies base on essential oils. DO NOT use Clary sage products if you are pregnant and under 38 weeks, as this can induce labour.
- Photosensitising oils (especially citrus ones), should not be used before exposure to direct sunlight.
- We strongly advise you keep essential oils away from plastics, painted or polished surfaces and never us near naked flames or other sources of ignition.
- DO NOT use machinery or drive after relaxation therapy or use of soporific oils, such as Clary sage.
